Press Release by France and Germany in the Historical Security Council of 2003

During tonight’s emergency session, the United Nations Security Council was briefed multiple times by Representatives from the Secretary General’s office on the increasingly dire humanitarian crisis in Iraq due to the recent invasion by the United States and the United Kingdom. However, after hours of deliberation, the Council was unable to reach an agreement on the methods by which to deliver humanitarian aid, finding itself at an impasse. Hence, the German and French Representatives, with authorization from Berlin and Paris, have made the decision to assemble the following aid package to alleviate the grave human suffering in the area:

Approximately $18 million worth of humanitarian aid, collectively gathered from the nations of Germany, France, Spain and Mexico. The Russian Federation will contribute 23.2 tons of medicine, 6,000 blankets, medical equipment, and disinfectants. Chile will contribute at least 100 humanitarian workers, primarily doctors and healthcare personnel.

The Representatives of Germany hopes that the Council will pass resolution HSC-4 to ensure safe routes through which to deliver this aid. However, whether or not the Security Council comes to a conclusion on this resolution, the aid package will be assembled and dispatched with the greatest urgency.
