Poland’s Press Release from the Security Council: Crisis in Sudan
Poland is deeply alarmed by the inaction of the Security Council in addressing the unfolding humanitarian crisis in Sudan. It has been hours since the announcement of a new military offensive within the Sudan. There are reports of thousands of refugees fleeing the country in an attempt to seek safety, yet the Council still has not acted to address or acknowledge any aspect of the conflict. Poland is extremely concerned that the structure of the Security Council will once again prevent the Council from being able to take timely action. Poland calls upon the Security Council to begin mobilizing the resources of the United Nations to provide immediate assistance to the region before the crisis intensifies. Until the Security Council takes charge of the situation, Poland implores Member States to take unilateral action to offer immediate assistance to those affected.
