ECOSOC: Collaboration Aids Progress
Monday evening, the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) passed five proposals from Topic One, empowering people and ensuring inclusiveness and equality. The body is currently looking to pass more proposals for Topic Two, Science, Technology and Innovation for Development. This speedy process has derived from collaborative efforts creating a conducive environment.
During unmoderated caucuses, the body broke into groups to draft relevant proposals. These groups still collaborated between each other, making sure overlap was not happening. Representative Wade Lindmark of Senegal said, “Everyone had their voices heard… it’s allowed for a really conducive environment where we have passed every resolution brought to the floor… Speed was allowed by the fact that we were able to split into so many different committees and have all those different ideas [expressed].”
The partnership between all Members is visible not only through what has been achieved but also the environment that is seen within the ECOSOC room. Smiles, laughter and jokes were found constantly throughout unmoderated caucuses. “ECOSOC has definitely been one of the best to work with. All of the [delegation] representation here has been absolutely wonderful. I could not ask to be on a better committee,” said Representative Kylie Waeltz of Canada.
At the time of writing, five proposals for Topic One and three proposals from Topic Two have been passed by the body.
