General Assembly Holds Special Session in Response to COVID-19 Pandemic

American Model United Nations is excited to announce the committees and topics we will be simulating this fall! These topics should lead to lively and valuable discussions among Representatives with a broad variety of interests. Without further ado, the topics are as follows:

General Assembly First Committee:

  • Developments in the field of information and telecommunications in the context of international security
  • Women, disarmament, non-proliferation and arms control

General Assembly Third Committee

  • Elimination of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance
  • Assistance to refugees, returnees and displaced persons in Africa

General Assembly Fourth Committee

  • Assistance in mine action
  • Implementation of the Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples

International Atomic Energy Agency

  • Nuclear and radiation safety
  • Nuclear security

ECOSOC Commission on the Status of Women

  • Women, the girl child and HIV and AIDS
  • Women’s economic empowerment in the changing world of work

ECOSOC Economic Commission on Asia and the Pacific

  • Towards disability-inclusive sustainable development: implementation of the Beijing Declaration, including the Action Plan to Accelerate the Implementation of the Incheon Strategy
  • Building resilience to cross-border disasters

Human Rights Council

  • The human right to safe drinking water and sanitation
  • Human rights and indigenous peoples

United Nations Environmental Assembly

  • Innovative pathways to achieve sustainable consumption and production
  • Poverty-environment nexus

International Court of Justice

  • Pulp Mills on the River Uruguay (Argentina v. Uruguay)
  • Temple of Preah Vihear (Cambodia v. Thailand)
