Algeria Applauds Passage of Agricultural Reconstruction Plan for Palestine in UN General Assembly 2
Algeria is proud to announce the successful passage of Resolution 1/1, an Agricultural Reconstruction Plan for Palestine in the General Assembly’s Second Committee. Algeria, as the chief sponsor of this critical resolution, reaffirms its unwavering commitment to peace, sustainable development and alleviating all forms of human suffering. Palestinians have no other place than their land. We stand in full solidarity with the Palestinian people in their time of need and reaffirm our calls for an immediate ceasefire.
This resolution underscores the international community’s recognition of the devastating and illegal humanitarian crisis in Palestine, specifically in Gaza, where conflict has ravaged agricultural infrastructure. Over 1.8 million people face extreme hunger and 70 percent of crop fields have been destroyed.
The resolution sets forth a comprehensive, multi-year agricultural reconstruction plan that emphasizes emergency relief, sustainable development, and long-term peacebuilding. Our resolution sets forth:
● The rehabilitation of destroyed crop fields in Gaza;
● The restoration and construction of irrigation systems, water reservoirs and renewable energy infrastructure to support sustainable farming practices;
● The provision of seeds, tools, fertilizers and other agricultural inputs to affected farmers;
● The rebuilding of agricultural markets, storage facilities and transport infrastructure to ensure that goods can be sold and distributed effectively;
● The establishment of veterinary care programs to support livestock populations, which are vital for both food security and economic stability;
● The construction of cold storage facilities and introduction of cost-effective methods such as solar drying, vacuum packaging and biopreservation to extend shelf life;
Algeria expresses gratitude to all Member States that supported this resolution and calls upon the international community to uphold their commitments to providing financial and technical assistance. This resolution represents not only a step toward restoring agricultural productivity but also a stride toward peace, economic independence and stability for Palestine.
