United Kingdom Submits a Press Release in Security Council A
23 NOVEMBER 2025-The United Kingdom, alongside Sierra Leone, Republic of Korea, Russian Federation, People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria and Guyana, proudly announce the unanimous passage of a new Security Council A resolution addressing the escalating crisis in the Sudans. The resolution represents a unified effort to promote peace, protect civilians, ensure humanitarian access and support a path toward lasting stability.
This resolution demonstrates the broad commitment of the international community to supporting diplomatic solutions in Sudan. Representatives welcomed the participation and approval of the Republic of Sudan during deliberations, affirming their readiness to engage with the United Nations, the African Union and other stakeholders in the pursuit of a more secure future.
While the Council is deeply concerned that the Rapid Support Forces and the Sudanese Armed Forces have not yet achieved a ceasefire, the authors of this resolution reiterate their strong desire to see hostilities end as quickly as possible. The vote reflects the Council’s shared hope that both parties will honor international calls to end violence and enter into inclusive peace negotiations without delay.
A central component of the resolution is the formal establishment of the United Nations–African Union Joint Monitoring Mechanism, ensuring coordinated tracking of ceasefire efforts, safe humanitarian operations and protection of civilians. The Council is pleased by the strong endorsement from regional institutions, particularly the African Union, which expressed satisfaction at being fully and meaningfully included in the process.
The resolution also renews commitments to humanitarian access, border stability, accountability for atrocities, and the ongoing mobilization of international support through United Nations institutions and regional cooperation frameworks.
Today’s action is not the end, but rather a strong first step on a path to our mission of worldwide peace. The Security Council has continued its deliberations and subsequently passed an additional resolution aimed at advancing peacebuilding, protection, and humanitarian outcomes as conditions evolve. Delegations remain firmly committed to returning to the table in the days ahead, prepared to continue crafting solutions that meaningfully address the suffering of civilians and contribute to peace, security and stability in the Sudans.
Additionally, as the deliberations continue discussions the United Kingdom, Sierra Leone, Republic of Korea, Russian Federation, Algeria and Guyana are looking forward to productive work on addressing Sudan and other crises included but not limited to the situations in Nigeria, Haiti, Israel and Palestine.
