Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka and the Dominican Republic Submit a Joint Press Release in General Assembly Plenary
Natural disasters do not discriminate by country or culture, and it is these natural devastating instances that become the catalysts for loss of life as well as political stability. Our goal as the United Nations is to reach out to Member States across the globe and show them support in times of crisis. Member States cannot stand alone in terms of natural disasters, and as the effects of climate change exacerbate these natural phenomena, it is imperative that we act now.
Draft resolution NN addresses the need for aid for Member States embroiled in crises exacerbated by extreme weather and natural disasters. It is imperative that we develop a comprehensive response network in order to pinpoint areas of extreme vulnerability so that aid workers may respond quickly, completely and effectively. With improvements of early warning technology, climate tracking technology, disaster relief responses and disaster preparedness, this committee can greatly improve the lives of many.
This committee can support Member States by helping to lessen the burdens felt by mass migration after natural disasters. This draft resolution NN has been an exciting collaborative effort by Member States from all over the world, and the Committee has brought together many resolutions such as DDD and WWW. We urge you to read, discuss and support draft resolution NN to discuss how addressing climate change could not only strengthen humanitarian aid efforts, but also the cause of many humanitarian emergencies.
