Holy See Submits a Press Release in IAEA
Good morning my Fellow Representatives,
The Holy See has seen some wonderful cooperation last evening and this morning, and once more I shall not belabor the point by burying the lead any longer. The draft resolution the Holy See backs with its full support, barring its vote due to observer status, is draft resolution AA. And while it does not address the full scope of the committee’s problems, it, if passed last, will deliver a comprehensive response to the issue of movement of nuclear materials, which will curb the frighteningly rapid rise in nuclear program proliferation. As to not misconstrue, this draft resolution does not restrict peaceful energy use of nuclear power for civilian purposes. The Holy See supports draft resolution AA wholeheartedly, and although, again, though it cannot vote on it, it will drive support to the very last. It will push support, it will make grand gestures, pray for the success of this draft resolution and continue to build support for draft resolution AA. This body may not be able to totally dismantle nuclear weapons, yet draft resolution AA is a step in the right direction to freeing the people of the world from the tyranny of nuclear weapons and those who would threaten mutually assured destruction onto the people of the world.
