BREAKING: United Nations Security Council B Faces Crisis in the Middle East

United Nations Security Council (UNSC) B has been called into an emergency session. There are reports of an Israeli drone strike destroying a vehicle, killing the deputy chairman of the political council of Hezbollah during a funeral. The Secretary-General of Hezbollah said, “We must consider the ceasefire as no longer existent.”

The United Nations, following a proposal from the United States, a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, passed a motion to call upon the states of Israel, Lebanon and Hezbollah to join their emergency session. Israel and Lebanon have been granted full speaking rights, while Hezbollah as a non-state actor joins for a question and answer session.

According to an update from the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the UNSC-B’s Emergency Session was made aware of the rapidly developing situation between Israel and Lebanon. In northern Israel, Hezbollah has used tank guided missiles, rockets and mortars to fire upon Israeli towns and military positions. The situation is still developing, but no casualties have been reported at this time.

The United Nations Security Council B suspends the emergency session for 20 minutes.

The UNSC B continues their emergency session with Lebanon now joining the deliberations.

The Council, including the Representatives of Israel and Lebanon, have begun preliminary negotiations to discuss the plausibility of returning to a cession of hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah. The Security Council has yet to receive a response to its invitation from Hezbollah, but remains steadfast in their shared belief that a ceasefire is necessary to prevent any further loss of life.

The Representative of Lebanon has abruptly left the UNSC B emergency session following a confrontational comment that called into question their ability to govern.

A report from the Secretary General’s office informed the Security Council of an update from the Lebanese Ministry of Health. Preliminary casualty figures estimate three members of Hezbollah as well as five to eight civilians, with a dozen or more civilians injured. These figures are expected to rise as the situation develops.
The Council, in light of this development, has voted to suspend the emergency session for 20 minutes.
