Sample Position Papers

The following position papers are provided as samples of both format and content of a well-crafted position paper for AMUN. These samples were taken from actual papers submitted at past AMUN Conferences. Please note that delegation names were removed from these papers, but will be included on the papers your delegation(s) submits to the Conference.

As provided in these samples, each delegation should submit one position paper, with approximately one half page of text (single spaced) for each topic (e.g. one full page for both topics in each General Assembly Committee and in Concurrent Plenary Session). Furthermore,

  • Delegations on ECOSOC should submit a position for each of the three primary topics (not including topics which are essentially reviewing the work of another simulation which reports to ECOSOC), but these may each be shorter papers (1/4 to 1/3 page each).
  • Delegations on the Security Council or Historical Security Council are encouraged to select the two or three topics which are most important to their country, and submit a position for each of those topics.
  • Delegations that choose to take a seat on the IAEA simulation should also submit a position for each topic.
Also, note that a special form is available on-line for paper submission. These should not be submitted on paper, but rather through this form. If the form does not work for any reason, schools should contact the AMUN Executive Office (mail@amun.org) or may alternately submit their position paper(s) as an e-mail attachment.

Please note that you do not need to provide header information (contents, etc.) for your papers. The submission form will walk each delegation through the process of submitting a position paper, and will automatically create all of the header information (including country name, etc.) If you are unable to utilize that form, please contact us and specific instructions will be sent to you on e-mail submission of position papers.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at any time. Please note that position papers are due by 25 October.  Additional information on position papers and deadlines for this year's conference can be found in the AMUN Rules and Procedures Handbook.
